Sir Paul McCartney knows money can't buy him love, so he's given his American fiancee something far more precious.

The former Beatle, 69, is dedicating his first ballet, Ocean's Kingdom, to Nancy Shevell, 51, whom he will reportedly marry this autumn.

"Nancy is bowled over," says a friend. "Paul is a romantic and after he produced a 1925 Cartier solitaire diamond engagement ring, the ballet tribute was another surprise."

McCartney's ballet, an orchestral love story, has its premiere with New York City Ballet next month.

Gwyn gets a little help from her friends

Budding singer Gwyneth Paltrow is to record an album — but without any help from her husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, or music giant Atlantic Records.

Instead, the Oscar-winner, 38, whose musical style is "country pop", is turning to pals Beyonce and Jay-Z for help.

Paltrow, who had a hit single in 2000 with Cruisin', and sang in TV series Glee as well as on the soundtrack for 2010 film Country Strong, recently turned down a £500,000 (Dh3.02 million) record deal with Atlantic.

Now Beyonce and Jay-Z have offered her use of a recording studio and a distribution deal.

"Gwyneth didn't want to feel the pressure of committing to a record company," says a source. "Beyonce has offered to be the first person to listen to the recordings. She and Jay-Z have offered her all the help she needs."

Katy needs her meat

She gave up eating meat two years ago to keep husband Russell Brand happy, but Katy Perry hasn't been able to stick to her pledge to stay vegetarian.

The Firework singer, 26, has secretly been devouring chicken and turkey after a period of abstinence.

"Russell has been a veggie for 22 years, but Katy adores meat," says a friend. "She did give it up for a while for Russell's sake but is finding it a struggle."

Brand, however, is sticking to his diet after winning Peta's award in June for sexiest vegetarian. "Even as a junkie I stayed true to vegetarianism," he said. "‘I shall have heroin, but I shan't have a hamburger.' What a sexy little paradox."
