The action on the waves will be breathtaking but the action on stage after Abu Dhabi's first Wakestock promises to be even better.

Post-punk rockers Maximo Park and alternative hip hop legends De La Soul are confirmed as the headline acts for the free three-day beachfront festival from March 4-6.

Wakestock will showcase some of the world's best adrenaline-pumping water sport action by day and world-class music by night.

Taking place on the Corniche Al Sahil Beach, Mercury Prize-nominated British alternative rock band Maximo Park will entertain on Friday, March 5 and legendary hip hop super group De La Soul take to the stage the following day to bring Wakestock to a close.

Managing director of organisers Flash Entertainment, John Lickrish said: "Wakestock Abu Dhabi is another superb free beach front event. It continues building on Abu Dhabi's growing reputation for staging world-class entertainment and sport events."

Visitors and residents have already been treated to a taste of the unique festival with the unveiling of the Beginners' Park on Al Sahil Beach. Open from 12-6pm, Tuesday to Saturday, the unique system uses overhead cable and tow ropes to pull riders along the water - an ideal way for all (above the age of eight) to enjoy the sport.

As the official first stop on the 2010 WWA Wakeboard World Series, the event will contribute points to the world rankings ensuring the best wakeboarders in the world will be in Abu Dhabi, showcasing this spectacular sport at a level of riding never seen before in the region.
