Dubai: Legendary singer and guitarist Eric Clapton treated his Dubai fans to a memorable night of music during his first-ever concert here on Thursday.
At the packed Dubai Media Amphitheatre, the 68-year-old musician brought with him an electric air of nostalgia, playing such hits as ‘Tears in Heaven”, “Layla” and “Wonderful Tonight”.
For his adoring fans, the event was indeed a memorable evening, though it may well be the last too in Dubai since the rock legend made public his sentiments about how he finds touring too taxing.
In Dubai, he brought out his masterful riffs, which earned him the No. 2 spot on Rolling Stone magazine’s 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time, bested only by Jimi Hendrix.
It was his first Dubai performance. He performed in Abu Dhabi in 2011.
Also known as “Slowhand”, the 17-time Grammys winner landed in Dubai after wrapping up his 2014 Japan Tour at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo on February 28.
Clapton had been going around the concert circuit for about 40 years.
He recently said he may be playing on his last ever tour. “I wont stop playing or doing one-off, but I’ll stop touring, I think,” Clapton was quoted as saying.
