Muscat: Double Oscar-winner A. R. Rahman arrived in Muscat Tuesday with his troupe of 90 musicians and performers for the Oman leg of his Jai Ho world tour.

Muscat is the only city in the Middle East where Rahman will perform when he takes to the stage Thursday at the 15,000-capacity Royal Oman Police Stadium in Wattayeh district of Muscat.

“There has been very encouraging demand for the tickets and we are expecting a full house although some tickets are available, especially for the residents of UAE and the other GCC states,” Dr Sathish Nambiar of Eventful told Gulf News.

The concert is organised in Muscat by Eventful and Ovation. The tickets are priced at 100 riyals, 50 riyals, 25 riyals and 10 riyals and can be booked online at boxofficeme.com

Rahman, a much-sought after film music composer, won two Oscars for his music score for ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. He is due to attend a dinner tonight at the Al Nahda Resort with 500 guests, who have paid 200 Omani riyals for for a special seating at the stadium.

“He flew in straight to Muscat after performing at Sydney,” Nambiar said.

All the original singers who performed on the ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ soundtrack arrived with Rahman for the concert along with the other big names like Hari Haran, Sadhan Sargam and drummer-par-excellence Shiv Mani.
