Star Wars Rebels continues to offer up gifts for the fans. On Monday’s first-season finale, it reintroduced the beloved character Ahsoka Tano from The Clone Wars animated series. Now it’s recruiting a former vampire slayer.

On Tuesday, Rebels executive producer Dave Filoni announced that Sarah Michelle Gellar would be joining the voice cast of the Disney XD series in Season 2 in an unidentified recurring role.

Gellar is known to most genre fans as the title character from Joss Whedon’s much-beloved Buffy the Vampire Slayer series. But she’s also married to Freddie Prinze Jr, who voices Kanan Jarrus, the Jedi survivor of the Rebels series.

Perhaps he did a little persuading?

Gellar joins an already-impressive voice cast that also includes David Oyelowo (from Selma), Vanessa Marshall, Steve Blum, Tiya Sircar and Taylor Gray.

According to Prinze, the second season will be nearly twice as long as the 13-episode-plus-a-pilot first season. However, there’s no word yet on a premiere date.

The series is set between the first two Star Wars film trilogies and depicts the first days of what is eventually to become the Rebel Alliance.
