The plot: Before we begin, it’s important that you know a couple of things. We love Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper so much that we went into this film feeling pretty certain that we were going to love it... and we did. Silver Lining Playbook tells the story of Pat (Cooper), a troubled ex-teacher who moves in with his parents (De Niro and Weaver) after spending eight months in a mental institution. He’s broken, but determined to get back on track, make things right with his wife and generally stay positive. But when Pat meets Tiffany (Lawrence) things get even more complicated: she’s recently bereaved and has plenty of problems of her own, and quickly becomes involved in Pat’s life, despite warnings from those around them. Tiffany agrees to help Pat win back his wife just as long as he learns to dance and perform with her at an upcoming event. And they don’t expect it, but they soon become the silver lining in each other’s lives. Don’t be fooled by the dream romcom cast, this novel adaption is a drama and has a poignant story about self-destructive behaviour at it’s heart. But if, like us, you’re a sucker for an offbeat love story driven by rock-solid performances, book your tickets now.
