Salman Khan will dole out Eidi to his fans this weekend with Kick.
Kick comprises all the histrionics that come with a Salman Khan film — action, comedy, romance and melodrama.
Devi Lal (meaning, son of a goddess) Singh (Khan) is an aimless youth who cannot keep a job — 32 of them actually — because he doesn’t get a “kick” out of it. Instead he gets his adrenalin rush by helping a friend elope and informing his unsupportive to-be-mother-in-law at the same time or by beating the crap out of hooligans who mess with young girls in ice-cream parlours while he tries to woo Shaina (Jacqueline Fernandez).
Pretty Shaina plays hard to get as, like all decent girls, she does not want to be tied to a ‘good-for-nothing’ fellow, who’s supported in his antics by equally nutty parents. As expected their romance is shortlived. Singh realises he cannot be what she wants him to be nor does he want to see her unhappy and he’s off to find the “real kick”.
You don’t have to be a scriptwriter to know what happens next. You just need to leave your brains home and enjoy the story, if it can be called that. As the film ends with Singh saying, “don’t try understanding me, just love me”, please don’t try to understand a Salman Khan film. Simply, love it.
Kick maybe Sajid Nadiadwala’s directorial debut and the remake of a Telugu film, but like all Khan movies, this is set to break box office records as trade pundits are predicting going beyond the Rs300 million mark.
