With Palestine’s Omar nominated for Best Foreign Language Film and Egypt’s The Square nominated for Best Feature Documentary at the Oscars this March 2, the Dubai International Film Festival’s films are enjoying big exposure.

In the meantime, dates for the 11th Diff have been announced. The 2014 festival will take place over a week between December 10 and 17.

Since its first run in 2004, the festival’s attendance has grown by 150 per cent. For the first time last year, it was visited by a delegation from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences who declared Diff a qualifying festival to put forward short films for Oscar consideration.

This meant that the winners of the Muhr Arab and Muhr Asia Africa shorts competitions, The Lost Voice and Gas Is Over respectively, were eligible for the Oscars shortlist this year.
