The film's robust performance in advance screenings bolstered projections that "Dark Knight" was headed for an opening weekend of $100 million or more in the United States and Canada. With a second weekend tally of £7.28 million (Dh41.8 million), and ten-day figures, recorded on Tuesday, of £30.55 million, the final instalment in the Batman series has stormed to the top of the box office around the world.
For fans in the UAE, there are still 15 days until its launch on August 16.
But for those who want to refresh their memories and brush up on Batman knowledge however, The Dark Knight — originally released in 2008 — will be showing in cinemas across the UAE this weekend. The film, the second in the trilogy (Batman Begins was released in 2005), features the late Heath Ledger as the Joker.
Fans have claimed the delayed release of The Dark Knight Rises in the UAE was for commercial reasons, something distributors have denied. The film has also been in the news after the Colorado theatre attack during a packed screening on July 20 which killed 12 and wounded 58 others.
Another major box office draw, Tom Cruise starrer Mission: Impossible, Ghost Protocol, shot partly in Dubai, is also returning to screens in the UAE this weekend.
