American Sniper

You thought he was tough as a raccoon in Guardians of the Galaxy? Wait ‘til you see him as the most lethal sniper in US military history. Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper stars Bradley Cooper as Navy Seal sniper Chris Kyle. This fact-based story offers a look at the dangers of modern-day warfare, the secrets of Special Ops and the toll all of it takes on a family. From the opening scene you’ll see there is a lot more to this character than just his pinpoint accuracy. With nods for Best Actor and Best Picture at this year’s Academy Awards, this one won’t disappoint.

The Book Of Life

This animated feature is bursting with vibrant colour, up-beat pop music and might even teach you a lil’ something about Mexican folklore. The Book of Life follows Manolo (Diego Luna) on an epic quest to rescue his true love (Zoe Saldana). So grab a churro and get ready for this magical adventure that will tug at your heartstrings.

Mortdecai

Get excited, people, because for the first time since Captain Jack Sparrow, Johnny Depp is actually funny! In this new movie he plays Charlie Mortdecai, a hilariously clumsy, slightly clever and always quick-witted art dealer on a mission from the Queen of England to return some serious artwork. Cue wild goose chase around through UK and America trying to find this stolen painting. Sounds familiar? Yes it may be a well-used formula but when you throw in top names Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor and Paul Bettany and (did I mention this already?) a very funny Depp, you get an original 106 minutes worth of cinema that’s definitely worth your time.

Wolf Creek 2

When Wolf Creek came out in 2005, backpackers around Australia freaked out upon meeting Mick Taylor, the weirdly horrible serial killer living in the outback. Well guess what, Aussies… he’s back! The first movie came out 10 years ago so you might have forgotten just how freaky it was. Don’t worry about looking back as this second film is just as scary. John Jarratt is back as main character Taylor and he doesn’t disappoint.

Don’t expect any award buzz to come from this, as it’s not quite as good as the first instalment, but if you were a fan back in ’05 chances are you’ll think this film is ‘fair dinkum’.
