Dubai: Hundreds of Bollywood fans thronged Grand Cineplex in Dubai last night to catch a glimpse of their matinee idols Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Akshay Kumar in action.

In town for the world premiere of their latest film, the comedy Action Replayy, the stars were in a jovial mood and promised to take their fans back in time to the golden '70s era where retro fashion ruled and emotions were amplified — at least in Bollywood.

"The movie is not about creating gags just for the sake of it. There is an innocence that's relevant to the '70s era," said a giddy Rai Bachchan at a press conference ahead of the premiere.

The Raavan star plays Mala, who is trapped in a loveless arranged marriage to Kishen [Akshay Kumar]. But things change when they travel back in time to the '70s thanks to a time machine.

Akshay Kumar, who's known for his impeccable comic timing in films such as Singh Is Kinng and Hera Pheri, says Action Replayy is a perfect family entertainer. "Comedy is an extremely challenging genre," said Kumar.

Asked what they would change if they could travel back in time, Rai Bachchan maintained her life is perfect and she wouldn't want to change a thing.

But Kumar said he wished he had diagnosed his father's prostaste cancer in time to save his life.

The much-anticipated Diwali release, based on a Gujarati play with the same title, reunites Kumar and Rai Bachchan since their successful 2004 box-office outing Khakhee.
