Much like the Macedonian King, superstar Mohanlal towers as a larger than life figure in the Malayalam movie, Alexander the Great. Directed by Murali Nagavally and produced by C Balachandran, the big budget film narrates a story that appears different from the usual potboilers we are so accustomed to in India.

Alexander the Great begins with the death of Prathapa Verma, the millionaire owner of several companies in Dubai. When his last will and testament is taken out of the sealed cover, there's shock and disbelief. And anger. For, Verma has bequeathed all his wealth to a stranger called Alexander who lives in Mumbai. Verma's own son, Manu, is shattered.

Determined to find Alexander Manu travels to Mumbai. The movie zooms ahead through a series of comic and not-so-comic sequences to help us reach the peak.

Mohanlal plays Alexander, and we are told he does a superb job of portraying the extraordinarily intelligent, perceptive and a bit peculiar character. Manu is played by young actor Bala. Meenakshi Dixit, who hails from Bollywood, is the film's heroine. Jagadeesh, Sudha Chandran, Ganesh Kumar, TP Madhavan and Sreelatha play supporting roles.

The film has been shot extensively across Kerala and Dubai. And strangely, Mohanlal does not have a heroine to prance around with in Alexander the Great. But does he have a Porus to lord over? We would have to watch the movie to find that out.
