The original 3 Men and a Baby
The remake Heyy Babyy
How similar? Filmmaker, Sajid Khan, picked a fun, classic plot to work with, but messed it up considerably by reworking the love connections, tweaking the characters and adding unnecessary touches.
Our recommendation Since the 1987 original, starring Tom Selleck, Ted Danson and Steve Guttenberg is now considered such a classic, we'd go with the Hollywood version.

The original What Lies Beneath
The remake Raaz
How similar Director brothers, Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt, are famous for lifting stories from T-town, and this was one of their more successful remakes, with then-hot couple, Dino Morea and Bipasha Basu, giving the creepy plot a glam makeover.
Our recommendation Both versions have their own strengths and flaws, and both definitely deserve a watch.

The original The Usual Suspects
The remake Chocolate
How similar? Although it was remade 10 years after the Hollywood version came out, Chocolate's filmmakers didn't feel the need to tamper with the double Oscar winner. So, the sinister plot remains unchanged.
Our recommendation For us, there's only one Keyser Söze and that's Kevin Spacey's Oscar-winning incarnation.

The original Stepmom
The remake We Are Family
How similar? We Are Family was an official remake of the Hollywood movie, Stepmom, with filmmaker, Karan Johar, buying the rights from the original creators. But Karan didn't do a straight lift and decided instead to tweak the first draft, adding his signature touches of Bollywood melodrama to the Kajol and Kareena Kapoor-starring flick.
Our recommendation Susan Sarandon and Julia Roberts are no match for Kajol and Kareena. But no amount of singing and dancing could fix its poor showing at the box office.

The original Mississippi Burning
The remake Aakrosh
How similar? Since director Priyadarshan is infamous for remaking South Indian blockbusters in Bollywood, many thought political drama, Aakrosh, was his own work, until they recognised its uncanny resemblance to 1988's Mississippi Burning - with the original's racial discrimination-driven plot, replaced with casteist issues.
Our recommendation Hard to choose here, so we say, make sure you check both of them out.

The original Reservoir Dogs
The remake Kaante
How similar? It isn't easy to follow in Tarantino's footsteps, but Sanjay Gupta's tribute, with its impressive cast and brilliant cinematography was spot on for the B-wood market.
Our recommendation We'll leave it to Tarantino to convince you. "I thought [Kaante] was fabulous," he said. "The best part is, you have Indian guys coming to the US and looting a US bank. How cool is that! I was truly honoured."

The original Bruce Almighty
The remake God Tussi Great Ho
How similar? Unfortunately, God Tussi Great Ho became a classic example of how a great concept can be ruined by a casting fail, with Jim Carrey's class act in Bruce Almighty not done justice by Salman Khan's wooden performance.
Our recommendation When you've got Morgan Freeman and the Big B playing God, you can't really go wrong!

The original Collateral
The remake The Killer
How similar? Yet another Hollywood re-hash from the Bhatt camp, but this one was speedily released just one year after the original. Change came via the victim's profession, from that of a US prosecutor (Jada Pinkett Smith) to that of a bar dancer (Priyanka Kothari).
Our recommendation No matter how talented Irrfan Khan is, he's still a long way from filling in for Tom Cruise.
