Dubai: The controversial killing of a Hamas commander in a five star hotel is Dubai in January 2010 is being given the Hollywood treatment.

Sony Pictures has just picked the pitch for the upcoming movie titled Shadow Runner, loosely based on the events of Hamas leader Mahmoud Al Mabhouh's last days in Dubai, leading up to his murder by a 17-member gang.

The Israeli hitmen who used fake British, Irish and Australian passports to enter Dubai, were subsequently identified on closed circuit television cameras and the footage was broadcast worldwide as part of the investigation by Dubai Police.

According to Hollywood trade sources, the high octane action-thriller, inspired by the real-life events, will star Australian actor Chris Hemsworth of Thor fame and will be written and produced by Iranian Oscar nominee Hussain Amini.

Although no director or starting date has been attached to the film as yet, industry insiders are already starting to wonder whether the movie will follow in the footsteps of Mission Impossible, and be shot right here in Dubai. The movie is slated for a 2014 release.
