Calling all movie aficionados: The best Emirati films gleaned from the past four editions of the Gulf Film Festival will be shown for free at Al Bastakiya from tomorrow until March 25.

The 10-day screening — the result of a collaboration between SIKKA 2012, an art fair put together by Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, and Gulf Film Festival — will showcase as many as 42 films.

"The Emirati showcase at SIKKA is a clear demonstration of the rich filmmaking talent we have in our country... The best of GFF at SIKKA is a not to be missed opportunity to witness the evolution of a home-grown Emirati cinema industry," said Masoud Amralla Al Ali, director of GFF, in a statement.

A healthy mix of documentaries, features and shorts that display eclectic styles of filmmaking have been included in the line-up.

On Friday, award-winner Khalid Mahmoud's works will be in the spotlight from 9am to 9.50pm. His film Sabeel is one of the works that will light up the silver screen.

This initiative will also dedicate a segment to Emirati women filmmakers on Monday. The films to be screened from 6-7 pm include Rewind (Muna Al Ali); Amal's Cloud (Rawia Abdullah) and Nations and Tribes (Maysoon Al Ali).

Entry to the GFF films at SIKKA 2012 is free. For more details, visit sikkaartfair.ae or e-mail info@sikkaartfair.ae.
