The plot The movie is initially set two centuries ago, a time when Barnabas (Depp) is the lord of the town of Collinsport, Maine.
All is chirpy until he - silly fellow - breaks the heart of, the really rather pretty witch, Angelique (Green). She then turns him into a vampire and buries him alive, leaving him to a grim existence until he is inadvertently released from his tomb in 1972, where he discovers his descendants in ruins, with each family member harbouring their own dark secrets.
The film features beautiful visuals and is chokka with one-off moments that will make you laugh out loud, thanks to the comedy gold that is the 1970s and Depp combined, but overall it falls flat, and we're left feeling a tad over all this Burton/Depp quirk.
