Bail Organa was responsible for taking care of Leia Skywalker, the daughter of Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala.

He was also a great friend of Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and one of the most important members of the Galactic Senate.
His full name was Bail Prestor Organa. He was a native of planet Alderaan who became one of the greatest personages at the time of the Old Republic.
Later he was very respected for the role he played in the fight of the Rebel Alliance, the New Republic and the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances.
Bail Organa was born 69 years before the Battle of Yavin. He was born in the ancient House of Organa (also known as House Organa or the House of Alderaan), whose origins could be traced as far back as the Old Sith Wars.
The historic Royal House of Alderaan had the Crown of Alderaan inherited by the family.
Bail Organa grew steadily as a political figure. At first he was the First Chairman and Viceroy of Alderaan, then he ascended as Prince; and later he served as the Senator of Alderaan in the Galactic Senate.
As we saw in Episode III: The Revenge of the Sith, Bail Organa and his wife Breha adopted Leia, the daughter of Padmé Amidala and Anakin Skywalker. The adoption always remained a secret.
People from Alderaan always believed that Leia was the natural daughter of Bail and Breha - this way she could claim her title of the princess of the planet.
Bail Organa did a great job of raising Leia. He died at the time of the civil war, 20 years after the end of the Clone Wars,
when the Death Star destroyed Alderaan, his native planet.
