It's remarkable that Anakin's story doesn't fulfil the destiny of a classic hero. Here he is, the main character of a series of six Star Wars films, the most talented and promising Jedi. Yet Anakin ends up a ruthless assassin, using the Force to his own ends and betraying Jedi philosophy.
Anakin Skywalker essentially dealt the final blow to the ailing Republic and ensured the rise of the Galactic Empire. But how did an essentially good human become a macabre version of his own destiny? It was all down to love, which gives origin to life, but in this case, also hastened death.
Anakin fell in love with Padmé Amidala - and simultaneously fell into the web of lies that Palpatine (Sith Lord Darth Sidious) constructed for him.
As a teenager, Anakin was under the command and teaching of Obi-Wan Kenobi, who fought hard to teach the young apprentice to control his impetus and his emotions. One of his major characteristics is an inability to restrain his feelings - as can be seen in Episode II: The Attack of the Clones, when Anakin disobeys the orders of the Jedi Council and travels to Tatooine to rescue his mother (Shmi Skywalker), who has been kidnapped by Sand People. Anakin arrives too late; his mother is dead, and in revenge, Anakin slaughters the entire encampment.
Once Anakin joined the dark side of the Force, many atrocities, like the brutal death of Count Dooku, the collaboration (with Darth Sidious) in the death of Mace Windu and the destruction of the Jedi temple, including the extermination of child Jedis, can be attributed to him.
Despite becoming Darth Vader and rejecting the Jedi, Anakin was unable to escape from his destiny. The prophecy attributed to him - that of bringing balance to the force - would be fulfilled, at the most unexpected moment.
