Sandra's former acquaintance, debt-ridden shady businessman Miles (Michael Madsen) wants to get back together with her, and the two meet up at his Paris office. The meeting turns violent, and Sandra murders Miles. She then flees to Hong Kong in search of a fresh start. Her new crime boss Lester (Carl Ng), with whom she is romantically involved, arranges a contact for her.

However, in Hong Kong, Sandra is on the run again, this time from Lester's wife, Sue (Kelly Lin) who is aiming to permanently destroy her husband's new romantic alliance. With an unexpected turn of events, Sandra finds herself trapped in a sordid game of deceit and manipulation.

With dimly lit sets that reflect the shady subject of the film and the characters, Assayas has tried to resurrect this thriller with some nerve-jarring action that includes daring chase sequences in Hong Kong.

However, except for the fearless performance of Argento, Boarding Gate will only lead viewers to the nearest theatre exit.
