Tron fans have had to wait for almost 30 years for the sequel, but the wait is finally over with this December's release of Tron: Legacy.
Better still: Gulf News tabloid! can reveal the 3D Disney movie will close this year’s Dubai International Film Festival.
The cast, crew and director have not yet sent their RSVPs (it’s busy in Hollywood) but stars Olivia Wilde, Jeff Bridges, Michael Sheen and director Joseph Kosinski have been invited and are expected to walk the red carpet at the festival’s closing gala on December 18.
The film, to be screened just one day after it opens in theatres in the US, is the story of Sam Flynn, the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn (Bridges), who looks into his father's disappearance and finds himself pulled into the world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years.
It’s the long-awaited follow-up from 1982’s Tron, a groundbreaking sci-fi film.
The choice of a 3D film to close the festival shows just how modern DIFF is, said DIFF Artistic Director Masoud Amralla Al Ali.
"Just as DIFF places emphasis on bringing the finest arthouse movies from around the world, we also incorporate the most modern trends in filmmaking to provide a total cinema experience for film enthusiasts. Tron: Legacy, presented in 3D, will be a revelation for filmgoers at DIFF."
DIFF, which takes place at Madinat Jumeirah from December 12 to 19, opens with the Colin Firth film The King's Speech.
