What Jean Paul Gaultier has done for the Queen of Pop’s tour

He famously designed the signature pointy bras she became known for and now Jean Paul Gaultier is proudly dressing Madonna again.

Predominantly driven by suits and corsets, with a “nod” to the cone-shaped bra, Gaultier revealed an image of the outfits he has designed for her on stage performances ahead of the first night of the material girl’s MDNA world tour, which kicks off tonight.

“We played with the ideas of a suit and a corset. But the corset is now like a cage,” said Gaultier on his inspiration.

“What I have done this time is a nod to the conical bra corset of the Blonde Ambition tour but reinterpreted in 3D, in patent leather on the outside and metallic leather on the inside. It’s all about masculine and feminine, Madonna and Jean Paul Gaultier classics reinterpreted for 2012.”

But Gaultier -- who says he will be attending Madonna’s concert in Paris -- says the look “is brand new”.

“I have never done anything similar for Madonna or anyone else. And Madonna is always very involved with her look as she has to perform in it but she left me creative freedom”.

He’s clear about the looks he’s created for the star, but when it comes to picking his favourite Madonna song, he’s spoiled for choice. “There are too many to choose.”
