Bollywood actor Vir Das, who showed impeccable comic timing in hits such as Delhi Belly, Go Goa Gone and Shaadi Ke Side Effects, is an avid history buff. Wars and world leaders excite him, but he wishes it had been told in an entertaining manner in his own class room.

Enter his own creation: History Of India: VIRitten, a stand-up comedy show that will be held at JW Marriot Marquis at 8pm on Saturday.

“When I started watching comedians like Eddie Izzard [British comedian], I realised that history and intellectual subjects could be made entertaining. The biggest challenge was the research and figuring out what not to write about and what to write about,” said Das in an interview with tabloid!.

While he counts the entry of multinational companies into the world economy as the most momentous historic event, his play will take a swipe at all the events that shaped India, including the construction of the Taj Mahal to the life and times of Mahatma Gandhi.

Das, who has performed more than 100 stand-up comedy shows such as Walking On Broken Das, lists five reasons why we shouldn’t miss his act this weekend.

1. It’s every single stupid thought that you think while sitting in a boring history class.

2. It’s a show that comes from a patriotic place and makes you feel good about your country.

3. It takes on politicians and their risky business.

4. I’m ridiculously handsome (I am told... when people are lying).

5. You’ve seen Dubai Mall 900 times already.
