Victoria Beckham's reincarnation from fake-tanned style cul-de-sac to leading fashion designer was completed last week when the British Fashion Council revealed that her eponymous label had been shortlisted for its Designer Brand of the Year award, sitting alongside fashion heavyweights Mulberry, Burberry and Pringle.

Beckham's label was launched in 2008 to raised eyebrows within the industry, but in just four seasons she has silenced her detractors, producing collections that have been critically acclaimed, commercially successful and endorsed by Hollywood A-listers such as Sarah Jessica Parker and Cameron Diaz.

Despite the fact that Beckham shows her twice yearly collections during New York fashion week, the brand is designed and made in London. It is very much the infant of the shortlist — Pringle was established in 1851 and Burberry in 1856. The nomination reflects the impact the label has had internationally over the past year and the fashion industry's willingness to embrace that.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on December 7.
