Thousands of fans braved cool temperatures in Los Angeles to camp overnight to catch a glimpse of their Twilight heroes on Monday night.

Kristen Stewart, perhaps channelling her character’s now undead status, didn’t seem to mind the chill, going for a transparent Zuhair Murad gown that left little to the imagination as she walked the black carpet at the Nokia theatre with her co-star and boyfriend Robert Pattinson, who stood out in a bottle green textured Gucci suit. Was the skimpy look her two fingers to the “trampire” slurs that had arisen after she cheated on Pattinson with her Snow White director Rupert Sanders — or was it just a fashion call?

In any case, it distracted enough attention from worries she and Pattinson would be awkward on their first public appearance since reuniting. Her female co-stars Nikki Reed (in Versace) and Ashley Green (in Donna Karan) on the black carpet at the Nokia Theatre also played with the pale-and-interesting theme, going for flesh tones and pastels, while Dakota Fanning was nearly unrecognisable with a new brunette hairstyle.

Mackenzie Foy, the child actress who plays Renesmee, the daughter of Stewart and Pattinson’s vampire characters Bella and Edward, looked age-appropriate in a princess-style white dress, while the male stars, including Taylor Lautner, who plays Bella’s one-time love interest Jacob, opted for grey suits, meaning nearly everyone from the billion-dollar franchise avoided that vampire favourite, black. The exception? A slimmed-down Stephenie Meyer, the author of the series of books that inspired the film franchise, and Michael Sheen, who plays vampire-in-chief Aro, who went for a black and blood-red velvet suit, befitting his role as a truly evil vampire.
