Rocco takes the lead

After getting noticed in the award-winning film Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa, Rocco Nacino has scored another lead role in his second indie project, The Lam-Ang Experiment, a film based on the folk epic poem Biag ni Lam-Ang.

Nacino speaks to tabloid! about the breaks he's getting recently, and what else is lined up for him this year.

Another lead role in an interesting project. How do you feel?

It's great. I feel like everything is moving so fast with my career. Not that I'm complaining. I'm also very happy about this project because it's something rooted in our traditional culture, but the approach will be hi-tech; it will be futuristic, so it's really an interesting movie. I'm privileged to be a part of it.

How did you get the role?

I was invited to audition. When I read the script, I fell in love with it. This is, by the way, my first time to audition for a film project, so I didn't know what to do. I just gave one reading my best shot, and then I was asked to act out a scene.

It was probably good — I got the role. (Laughs)

It's the story about a warrior-hero from folklore. How are you preparing for it?

Diet, diet, diet (laughs). The shooting starts in April, so I have to really have the right physique required of the role. And because I'm a warrior, I have to be trained in arnis, our local martial arts tradition.

I'm looking at Beowulf as peg — it's going to be challenging, so wish me luck.

Besides film what else are you busy with at the moment?

I have The Good Daughter series on TV, with Kylie Padilla. I'm lucky to be one of the lead stars, that's why I said I'm happy with the way things are going in my career.

I'm also hoping for another TV project this year, in prime time, hopefully, which will be a good follow up to Time of My Life.

What else have you got planned for the year?

I really hope I can do an album. I love playing the guitar and the drums, so maybe something acoustic. I usually dance in Party Pilipinas, but I hope I also get the chance to play some instruments and showcase my musical talents.

Everyone's loving Lovi

If Lovi Poe plays her cards well, she may well be the next queen of prime time TV. She's earning rave reviews for her role in Legacy.

Critics are enthusiastic about her portrayal of Natasha, a sassy, big-time executive who will find out she's not the scion of a wealthy family that owns the company she considers her personal kingdom. And if TV ratings were anything to go by, Pinoy TV audiences are loving her, too.

Although Poe's slowly been building up her credentials with memorable performances on TV and in movies, her rise has not been meteoric. Her approach seems to be slowly but surely.

David's got it

American Idol runner-up David Archuleta just wrapped up shooting his scenes for Nandito Ako.

Although he was nervous and tentative at first, Archuleta proved he's got the goods to become a successful actor. His director, Mac Alejandre, was quoted saying the American singer is a natural.

Vicki airs her dirty laundry in public

High-profile celeb couple Vicki Belo and Hayden Kho's lovers' quarrel spilled over to Twitter, when the popular doctor to the stars tweeted she was giving her boyfriend the liberty to date aspiring singer-actress Nancy Castilogne.

Kho was surprised by his girlfriend's tweet, and said they're having problems, but said infidelity was not the issue.

The two separated three years back when Kho allegedly got involved with one of his girlfriend's therapists who worked at one of her famous cosmetic surgery clinics. Castilogne, who is married and a mother of two, has also issued a statement denying any involvement with Kho. But Belo is said to be bent on separating from her much younger boyfriend.

Amazing Derek it is

Derek Ramsey is definitely moving to TV5 and will host The Amazing Race.

Despite denying rumours, a top TV executive associated with the network has confirmed Ramsey will be announced as the host of the popular reality show.

The actor, who starred in the 2011 box office hit No Other Woman, was allegedly offered a contract he couldn't refuse. This, plus his frustration with his current home network for allegedly exposing the news about a previous marriage made him transfer.
