Biggest loser: Kim Kardashian

It's pretty much a given that anything that comes out of a Kardashian (or Jenner) mouth should be taken with a pinch of salt and after the complete sham of that wedding, SCENE names greedy Kim K as our ‘Loser of the Year'.

Having pocketed a rumoured Dh65 million from her televised wedding to basketball player, Kris Humphries, before filing for divorce after just 72 days, Kim went on the defensive, claiming she "couldn't believe" she would have to defend the fact that she "married for love".

Marrying Humphries in August in a star-studded bash, which included Ryan Seacrest, Demi Lovato and Lindsay Lohan on the guest list, pals say the reality TV star had doubts before walking down the aisle, with one spilling, "She was calling friends saying she didn't want to do it." But it seems the lure of the big bucks was too much for Kim to turn down and she went ahead with it anyway, not anticipating the anti-Kardashian backlash her divorce caused, which sent mum-ager, Kris Jenner, into a tailspin. Ordering her 30-year-old daughter on a media lockdown and highly publicised charity splurge, Kris has also used the media storm to promote her book, Kris Jenner…And All Things Kardashian.

Hmmm, so that's where Kimmie gets it from...

Biggest winner: Pippa Middleton

When two billion people around the world tuned in to watch April's royal wedding between Kate and William, few would have expected that it would be the maid of honour who completely stole the show. Showing off her slender, athletic figure in her McQueen dress, Pippa performed her wedding duties with aplomb, winning millions of fans in the process. And ‘The Pippa Effect' as it became known, saw her name shoot to the top of the baby name charts, sales of padded pants - which add two inches to the derriere - spike, and fake tans and blow dries become de rigueur for all would-be royal sister-in-laws. And even the stars weren't immune to her charms, with Justin Timberlake revealing he had a crush on the 28-year-old, calling himself a "big fan".

And despite her split from boyfriend, Alex Loudon, signing a book deal to the tune of Dh2.4 million - in which she'll offer up party planning and entertaining and cooking tips - certainly sweetened the end of the year for Ms Middleton.

Pip, pip, hurray!

Biggest baby winners: Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan

When Bollywood's most hotly anticipated baby arrived on November 16, the Twittersphere lit up as #BabyB started trending immediately as the couple's star pals rushed to wish Ash and Abhi their congrats. Revealing that he felt "overwhelmed" at the arrival of his daughter, Abhishek, said, "It is a momentous occasion for the family and we are overwhelmed with all the love we have received."

And possibly even more excited was grandpa, Amitabh, who admitted he spent hours just watching the new arrival, spilling, "I am dada to the cutest baby girl!" And after 38-year-old Ash decided to go through a natural delivery in Caesarean-obsessed Mumbai, the influential actress's decision immediately saw a rush in women deciding to give birth naturally.

Winning winner: Charlie Sheen

If you thought that Charlie Sheen's apparent mega-meltdown following his sacking from Two And A Half Men meant that the Warlock was over and out, how wrong you were! In fact, looking back on the debacle earlier this year, which saw Charlie go head-to-head with his former TAAHM bosses, before embarking on his much derided ‘Violent Torpedo Of Truth' tour, extol the virtues of living with "goddesses" and drinking "tiger blood" - it all now seems like a coolly calculated plan to drum up as much publicity for the star as possible, as he embarks on his new TV show, Anger Management.

And the 46-year-old also looks set to scoop an unbelievable Dh450 million from Warner Bros. over the next few years from TAAHM syndication rights.

But the actor also took time to show off a teensy bit of moral fibre, supporting estranged wife Brooke Mueller, after she recently relapsed, insisting that he wouldn't seek full custody of their twins, Max and Bob, and defending the accusation that she bought drugs "with intent to distribute."

"With the child support I give her... she's gonna deal drugs?" said Sheen of the Dh198,000-a-month payout. "Never gonna happen."

Box office winner: Shah Rukh Khan

King Khan proved he was deserving of his Bollywood title, after the star saw his sci-fi superhero flick, Ra.One prove to be a monster box office hit - both in India, and across the globe. The most expensive Bollywood movie ever made - and the number of special effect VFW shots used in the movie surpassed that of Avatar! - saw the star slip into a superhero costume as G.One, opposite Kareena Kapoor, and take the blockbuster to over 170 crore (Dh123 million) domestically in its opening weekend.

Having admitted he was "broke" if the film flopped, and "very nervous" about its reception, SRK recently spilled, "I want to make a sequel to Ra.One. It would be G.One and would begin from Mohammad Ali Road. In India, we don't have superheroes. We should have many more superheroes. That would be fun."
