Director Balaji Mohan is ready with his second film,Vaayai Moodi Pesavum (Talk with your mouth closed).

Not only does the title evoke curiosity, when it started filming last year, the posters showed Malayalam actors Dulquer Salman and Nazriya Nazim with their mouths covered with plasters.

After Mohan’s debut film, also with a quirky title, Kadhalil Soddhapuvaddhu Yeppadi, (How To Mess Up In Love), was a critical and commercial hit, great expectations lie ahead.

Vaayai Moodi Pesavum talks about an imaginary illness that breaks out in a town causing people to lose their voices. How do they communicate with each other? That forms the crux of the story.

“It’s a light-hearted romantic comedy that presents today’s scenario where lack of communication seems to be the major drawback,” Mohan said. “It affects people not only at the personal level but also at the societal level.”

After Kadhalil Soddhapuvaddhu Yeppadi Mohan was keen on experimenting in a new genre.

“With VMP I have pushed the boundaries further,” he added.

Made in Tamil and Malayalam (called Samsaaram Arogyathinu Haanikaram) this marks the entry of Dulquer Salman in Tamil and the return of Madhoo (of Mani Ratnam’s Roja fame). Nazriya plays Salman’s onscreen lover. Director Mohan also does a cameo.

Salman plays Arvind, a door-to door salesman selling an adhesive that goes by the name ‘Mr Fix-it.’

“It symbolises Arvind’s nature — he is a chatterbox and always goes out of his way to fix people’s problems,” added Mohan.

Nazriya plays Dr Anjana, a reserved person.

“I play an eccentric reporter on television, bringing in regular updates on the ‘flu’,” said Mohan, who quit engineering to follow his passion for films. Mohan’s short films won him the Best Director award on Kalaignar TV show Naalaya Iyakunar.

Shot in Munnar with music scored by Sean Roldan, VMP is produced by Radiance Media. Cinematography is by Soundararajan.
