Coming out in support of film personalities contesting the ongoing Lok Sabha elections in India, director Subhash Ghai on Monday said the fraternity has produced some good political leaders.

Ghai referred to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa and late Congress MP Sunil Dutt’s contribution to politics.

“People can come from all spheres. Members of parliament include engineers, doctors, artists and so on. Politicians work for a social cause. Jayalalitha is an example of a good leader who is from the film fraternity. Sunil Dutt ji [mark of repect] was also there,” Ghai said.

On whether he plans to direct a movie centred on politics, Ghai said: “As a storywriter, I react to the situation. Kal civil war hogi ya Swaraj hoga, I don’t know. Jo hogi shayad uss par film banaunga. [I don’t know what is in store in the future, whether a civil war or self-rule. Depending on the scenario, I might make a film.]”
