Elizabeth Hasley’s disdain for life is one that I relished playing. I’m such a cheerleader, it’s kind of fun to play a character who thinks everything sucks, says Cameron Diaz about her role in Bad Teacher. Image Credit: AP

Cameron Diaz: “Be even more conscious of ecology. I drive a hybrid car, a grey Prius, and I have a compost pile and recycle everything I can, not just plastic and glass. I reuse wrapping paper. I use natural biodegradable cleaning products in my home. I buy recycled scrap paper, toilet paper and paper towels – and I use rechargeable batteries.

Nicole Kidman: “Never to be afraid of age again. When I turned 40, it felt right. I didn’t feel what I thought that wretched age was going to be like and I’m not going to worry about aging anymore.”

Victoria Beckham: “To continue eating healthy things – like Japanese food, lots of fish, any sort of fish, any sort of vegetable, lots of fruit, that sort of thing.”

George Clooney: “To learn to speak fluent Italian. Actually, I’m taking lessons. It’s so frustrating. Three days a week, a guy comes over to teach me – and when he leaves, I don’t know any Italian.”

Julia Roberts: “To try to switch school buses to run on biodiesel. Our kids are inside those buses, where it’s so much more toxic and deadly. Buses can be changed to biodiesel and vegetable oil – that’s part of SchoolBus America.”

Eva Mendes: “I keep trying to stop biting my nails — and by January 3, I’m munching on them again.”

Uma Thurman: “To see the world. The one thing I can say for myself is that I have not lost my intense curiosity and huge love for life. I also go into the new year with my optimism intact. I safeguard it very preciously.”

Oprah Winfrey: “Pray for our President — and that [we get] another chance for us to get it right.”

Ben Affleck: “Not to fly on private jets anymore. I go commercial. It’s better for the environment.”

Bruce Willis: “Less e-mail and more human contact with those I care about.”

Jim Carrey: “My New Year’s wish? My New Year’s resolution? I’ve already given up everything! One year, I gave up smoking, but then I probably started again. It’s so hard with non-smoking ads everywhere. Those ads remind you to smoke. It makes you start smoking again!”

Jessica Simpson: “I almost had my license taken away because I ran so many red lights. I won’t do that again this coming year.”

Jada Pinkett Smith: “To go on vacation with my husband (Will Smith) somewhere, get snowed in and get some peace and quiet.”

Carmen Electra: “My New Year’s resolution always is to start drinking more water – but I never do. Every year, it’s the same thing because I drink a lot of coke. I’m addicted to drinking soda.”

Usher: “I’m going to be more charitable. And I’m going to explore new territory.”

Nicolette Sheridan: “This year, I plan to give back any way I can. I just want to help people. I’m good at resolutions too. Look at me, honey, I’ve kept them all!”

Patrick Dempsey: “To be healthy…there’s a reward when I can pick up my twin boys and not pull my back out.”

Susan Sarandon: “Not to be pressured into having plastic surgery.”

Adam Brody: “I will never shave my chest for a pool scene.”

Angela Bassett: “To work out and not get lazy. Or, if I do not, not let the malaise last too long.”

Hilary Duff: “I definitely want to take more time off – and to try to stay off my cellphone.”

Ellen Pompeo: “Never to work as a bartender on New Year’s Eve again. Before I got my break on Grey’s Anatom — that’s what I did. Mix drinks.”

Dylan Mcdermott: “To stay alive – more than anything else. I’m always really happy when I make it to a new year.”

Ellen Degeneres: “Everybody always resolves to start exercising, but they never do. You know why? Because it’s January. Who wants to go jogging in the freezing cold?”

Queen Latifah: “I try not to make resolutions because I break them all. I eventually quit smoking, but it wasn’t on New Year’s Eve.”

John Mayer: “I want cars that fly, damn it!”

Helen Fielding, author of Bridget Jones’ Diary: “I do think New Year’s resolutions can’t technically be expected to begin on New Year’s Day, don’t you? Since, because it’s an extension of New Year’s Eve, smokers are already on a smoking roll and cannot be expected to stop abruptly on the stroke of midnight with so much nicotine in the system. Also dieting on New Year’s Day isn’t a good idea as you can’t eat rationally but really need to be free to consume whatever is necessary, moment by moment, in order to erase your hangover. I think it would be much more sensible if resolutions began generally on January the second.”

Comedian George Lopez: “I want to maintain my weight and stay under 200 pounds.”
