As if losing his job is not enough, Mani, a software professional, finds himself confronting a choice between the frying pan and the fire.

This is the story in first-time director Shree’s upcoming Tamil film Damaal Dumeel.

How that happens and the consequences that Mani has to deal with form the rest of this tale scripted by Shree, who assisted Tamil director Shankar on the sets of the Rajnikanth starrer Enthiran.

Playing the lead is Telegu actor Vaibhav, last seen in Venkat Prabhu’s Mankatha. His onscreen love interest is Malayalam actress Remya Nambeesan. “This is a thriller with comedy woven into the narrative,” says Shree.

“The humour will surface during the heavy scenes and an experiment I have tried.”

Playing the baddies are Kota Srinivasa Rao as Ilavarasu, who runs a prostitution ring, and Shayaji Shinde, dealing in duplicate drugs. Watch out, there will be lots of bullets flying, as the title of the film indicates.

“I have also included social messages into my story but conveyed in a subtle manner,” adds the graduate from Madras University.

Praising Vaibhav’s performance, Shree reveals that the actor has carried the film on his shoulders.

“Remya as the girl next door and Mani’s lover has a crucial role in the climax.”

Nambeesan also sings a song, Pogadhe Pogadhe, in the film.

Watch out for comedians Mano Bala and Charlie. Damaal Dumeel is produced by Cameo Films. Thaman S.S has scored music. Cinematography is by A.M. Edwin Sakay. So will it be the fire or the frying pan for Mani?
