Angel Aquino is so easy to like, even among her peers. Although extremely talented and beautiful, she is down-to-earth and has not been the subject of any controversies, a rarity in a dog-eat-dog world like showbusiness. What’s her secret? Aquino opens up to tabloid!.
Q: What are you up to these days?
A: I just filmed Amorosa, which was shown recently. Thankfully it did well — we had such as great cast and a fantastic director. I’m now doing a dramatic thriller, Biktima, which is being helmed by a very promising director and will be released soon.
Q: Both films are quite a departure from the ones you used to make.
A: As an actor, I’d like to be challenged. It’s the reason why I enjoy my profession, and one of the reasons why I loved doing these two films. Acting keeps me on my toes. You need to deliver what’s required of the role, and if that changes, you evolve, too; you get more depth as an actor.
Q: You’re very well liked in the industry, what’s your secret?
A: Sincerity and just being who I am. I don’t go for titles or accolades, if they come, thank you. I just do my work and help others when they tell me they need help. I don’t go for meaningless chatter on the set, I actually engage people — treat them with respect.
Q: You’ve recently broken up with your boyfriend. How are you now?
A: A little bit better, but the relationship question is you ask me is still complicated. I am not dating, kind of, but I am happy. My heart is beating steadily and peacefully (Laughs).
Q: Being a former model, people look up to you for your style. What’s your style philosophy?
A: Just to keep it simple. Putting clothes together doesn’t have to be stressful — what looks nice and comfortable are the first thing that matters. Develop your own style, and when you get comfortable with it, it will show in the way you confidently carry yourself.
Q: You’re still walking the ramp. Which do you prefer doing — modelling or acting?
A: Acting, because it brings out emotions. There’s also a bit of that when I do modelling. I put emotion into how I carry the clothes on the ramp, depending on what the collection is. But acting gives me so much more choices in terms of the emotions I can play with, so I enjoy it more. But I’d still love to model once in a while.
Q: And your beauty secret?
A: Keep my face clean with water mostly; moisturise it. I also drink lots of water and get lots of fibre. Having a good laugh as often as possible also works.
