As a fitting prelude to International Women’s Day next month, South Indian actress and Indian classical dancer Shobana will perform a solo dance recital entitled Shakti at Centrepoint, Ductac, on March 6 at 7.30pm.

In the 90-minute show, Shobana will put together a melange of her traditional Indian classical dance compositions and her contemporary creations.

“Shobana’s dedication to her art is legendary. She is well known for her grace, expression, finesse and offbeat world-class presentations. Dubai is in for an inspiring artistic treat to celebrate womanhood ... Shakti is our tribute to women of this nation and the world over,” said organiser Vinod Raghavan, director and CEO of Tambourine Live.

Shobana is the niece of the legendary classical dancers the Travancore Sisters — Lalitha, Padmini and Ragini — and has performed to packed houses across the globe. As an actress, she has acted in several blockbusters in languages spanning Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. But her role as a schizophrenic in the psychological thriller Manichitrathazu with Malayalam superstar Mohanlal stands out as one of her career’s best.

Tickets to the dance recital are available for Dh500, Dh300, Dh200 and Dh100. Contact: 04-3414777 or go to www.ductac.org.
