Fitness conscious Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and VLCC founder and mentor Vandana Luthra launched YaP, a programme combining yoga and physiotherapy on Thursday in New Delhi.

YaP combines the eastern philosophy of yoga and ancient oriental principles of balancing vital energy with physiotherapy by using bio-energy stimulation.

“I always believed in dreaming big and this was an attempt to give something new to the Indian market,” said Shetty. “It’s a welcome change. I love the philosophy of East meeting West in terms of technology,” said the 38-year-old who came dressed in a white jumpsuit for the launch.

Apart from pain relief, YaP claims to help in the recovery from muscle, joint, tendon and ligament injuries and in sleep disorders and chronic fatigue. Initially the service will be offered at VLCC’s 167 slimming, beauty and fitness centres in India only.

“I have to thank [my sister] Shamita, who was always taken for granted. She has been really wonderful in translating my vision. She is an interior designer and has designed the prototype of YaP, which will be carried out at all YaP centres,” said Shetty, who completed four years of marriage on Friday. “I also want to thank [my husband] Raj for doing all the ground work for the project. I have no idea how to initiate a business and this would have never been possible without his acumen. Thank you so much.”
