Dubai’s very own fashion brand Splash has caught the Bollywood fever. The high-street retailer has announced superstar Salman Khan as its brand ambassador, a first for the brand which recently celebrated 20 years.

The year-long association will see Khan model Splash’s latest collections and film promotional videos. The first campaign, for the brand’s autumn-winter collection, will be shot in London and launched in August.

“Splash is an amazing high street retailer with a very vast reach in the region. I am happy to be associated with [it] and look forward to a great journey,” the actor, one of India’s biggest stars, was quoted in a release.

But this is not Khan’s first association with Splash. The retailer already stocks his Being Human fashion and accessories line, which raises funds for underprivileged children in India.

“Salman is a brand and his appeal spans through generations, classes and nationalities particularly with the Arabs in the region where every personality of his is loved and revered by his fans,” said Splash CEO Raza Beig.

“Our association with [him] stems from his persona of style which is often spoken about and he is famous for creating fashion trends that are copied by millions.”

Khan, who filmed his next project Mental in Dubai earlier in the year, was recently charged for homicide for his involvement in a fatal road accident in Mumbai more than 10 years ago.

One man was killed and four people were injured when the actor drove his car into a group of homeless people sleeping on a sidewalk in September 2002.

The court charged Khan with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and if convicted, could face up to 10 years in jail.

The trial is scheduled to begin August 19.
