- Rihanna is to star in a forthcoming science- fiction film.
Rihanna is to star in a forthcoming science-fiction film about a naval fleet that protects Earth from alien invaders. It was confirmed this week that the 22-year-old R&B star will appear in Battleship, directed by Peter Berg. True Blood actor Alexander Skarsgård and Taylor Kitsch are also onboard. It has not yet been announced which part Rihanna will play.
The singer made her acting debut in the 2007 direct-to-DVD film Bring it On: All or Nothing and last year appeared in a Saturday Night Live sketch in which she performed alongside a character called Shy Ronnie, played by Adam Sandberg. In February Rihanna revealed she would "love" to focus more on acting after completing her tour.
Rihanna has had seven No 1 singles since her debut album, Music of the Sun, was released in 2005. Her 2007 single Umbrella enjoyed global success, holding the UK No 1 spot for two months, longer than any other single that decade.
According to Variety, Battleship is based on the board game of the same name and is expected to be released in May 2012.
