VIP clubs with bottle service are now the norm in Dubai’s nightlife scene, but if Tim Derry has anything to do with it, you’ll be spending your Friday night in a car park instead - and loving it.

The DJ - a stalwart of the Dubai club scene - is behind Younique, a new club concept kicking off on April 19 in the P7 Car Park of the Media One Hotel.

The venue has been a club only once before and will be the setting for a “refreshingly unpretentious night out” organisers said in a statement. There will be no VIP table service, and - we love this - “a strict ‘No Sparklers’ policy will be enforced”.

“Dubai’s clubs seem to be obsessed with celebrities, VIPs, VVIPs and even VVVIPs,” says event promoter Derry, of Think Events, who help organise the Sandance music festivals.

“We wanted to bring clubbing back to basics for people who love music more than designer labels. Of course, models and millionaires are more than welcome but we hope they’ll be in the middle of the dancefloor with everybody else. After all, music is such a great leveler.”

At the first event expect scratch DJ DJ Yoda, UK beatboxer Faith SFX (he’s played alongside Plan B, Jay-Z, Ludacris and Paloma Faith and Bruno Mars (who play Dubai this weekend, lest we forget).

Our local hitmakers Hollaphonic will also perform, along with DJ Dan Greenpeace and the UAE’s Pioneer DJ-ME champion Soulninja, while breakdancers, freestyle cyclists and local artists get the artistic juices flowing.

Doors at 5pm, entry Dh100; 21 and over only.
