Fashion designer Malini Ramani, best known for creating resort wear, chose to go the Indian way for her autumn-winter collection that she presented at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week in New Delhi on Thursday.

The theme of her collection was “Glamourette” and while it included saris in abundance, there were also thigh-high slit and figure-hugging dresses.

What added to the Indian look were the big bindis her models sported. The winged eye makeup further enhanced their look and reminded the audience of yesteryear Bollywood actresses such as Asha Parekh and Helen.

“It’s the first time I have done Indian,” Ramani told reporters after the show.

True to the theme, she used gold on black outfits. While black remained the dominant colour of the collection, she also played with pink.

“All of us love black ... I love using gold. My collection had a little bit of transparency too. I just wanted it to be sexy and Indian. I like stretch so, I used lycra. Other fabrics were chiffon and silk jersey,” she said.
