She is more famous for her appearances in court and in the tabloids than anything she has done on screen.

But although Lindsay Lohan began her seventh court-ordered rehab programme on Friday, she insists she is nothing like her ‘wild child’ image.

In an interview with Piers Morgan in The Mail on Sunday’s Event magazine today, the actress insists: “I’ve never been a huge drinker.”

And although she admits to taking drugs, she says that her lifestyle is no different from that of other women in their 20s.

The star, who made her movie debut aged 11 in The Parent Trap, also confirmed she is straight, despite having had a two-year relationship with a girl.

Lohan appeared to violate her probation on Friday when she checked into a California clinic for 90 days of rehab — only to leave minutes later.

However, she subsequently checked into the Betty Ford Clinic for treatment, ordered after she pleaded ‘no contest’ to reckless driving and lying to police after a crash last year.

“Everyone thinks I have done [cocaine] so many times,” she told Morgan. “But I don’t like it. I took it four times from about 20 to 23 and got caught twice. I felt a little too buzzed. It made me feel uncomfortable. It’s the truth.”

“I’ve never been a huge drinker. I’ve never woken up in the morning and had a drink. When I was younger I was definitely going out too much and I was drinking too much.

“I’ve never been a junkie and never will be. I just like going out late to clubs. It’s not that unusual for a girl of 26.’

But she did admit to one addiction: “To shopping — but that’s because I love fashion.”

Speaking of her sexuality, Lohan said: “I like being in a relationship with a guy.” But she added: ‘I had a relationship with a girl.”
