Kim Kardashian let it rip on Friday on Instagram, mincing no hashtags in her slam of Katie Couric, whom she deemed a “fake media friend.”

It all started out pleasantly enough, it seems, with Couric sending Kardashian and boyfriend Kanye West a baby gift with a note congratulating both of them and saying (as a fellow “K”?) “may I humbly suggest you continue the K tradition” in naming the baby girl. It was signed, “Fondly, Katie Couric.”

So that’s all well and good, right? Until Couric, in an interview with InTouch that was posted on Thursday, declared that she just didn’t get the Kardashian phenomenon.

“I don’t understand – why are they so famous?” she posited. “I think it’s mostly teenage girls that are interested.”

Kimmy no like.

So Kimmy went to Instagram to post a picture of the gift and the accompanying note, captioning it with the hashtags #IHateFakeMediaFriends and #MayIHumblySuggestYouNotSendGiftsThenTalk[Trash].

Then sister Khloe Kardashian Odom chimed in, tweeting, “God I love this new side of u!” as she quoted her older sister’s post and sent it along to her own bajillion Twitter followers.

But Couric’s no dope. She responded within hours, with a statement Friday afternoon to E! News.

“I was responding to a reporter’s question and explaining how I’m intrigued by the public’s fascination with her family. I didn’t mean to hurt her feelings,” Couric said. “The gift is genuine, and I’m happy for Kim and Kanye.”

Time will tell if Kim gets over the tiff, we suppose.

Meanwhile, the reality-TV star is not the first celeb to take a shot at Couric this month. Jennifer Aniston was on Chelsea Lately with Chelsea Handler, who was relating a story about chatting with Couric, and Jen asked, “What’s Katie Couric? Is she a legitimate journalist? Is she getting tabloidy? Wasn’t she on the Today show?”

Ouch.
