Five years after he came to launch an ambitious fashion island project, famed German fashion designer and master of the quotable-quote Karl Lagerfeld is coming back to Dubai. This time for the French fashion house Chanel, for which he is the creative director.

The house will, for the first time in the country, unveil its Cruise collection or holiday collection on May 13. The collection is usually launched in between the two main seasonal collections for spring-summer and fall-winter. The brand travels to a different country each year for its cruise show, with models and celebrities in tow. Last year, it went to Singapore.

“Since 2000, Chanel’s collections have been travelling around the world – from Paris to New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Venice, Saint Tropez, Cap d’Antibes, Versailles and Singapore,” it said in a statement. “A futuristic megalopolis of the 21st century, the ever-developing emirate of Dubai is a crossroads of civilisations between Europe and Asia.”

Lagerfeld, the house’ eccentric frontman, was last seen in the city in 2008. Chanel also presented The Little Black Jacket, a photo exhibition curated by Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld, the former Vogue Paris editor, last year in Dubai. Singer Rita Ora, who features in the exhibition, attended the event at Downtown Dubai in April.

Information on location and celebrity guestlist for the cruise show are not available as yet.
