Justin Bieber has paid tribute to Michael Jackson by singing all over one of his songs. A new version of Slave to the Rhythm was “leaked” to radio on Friday, showcasing the late and the living pop star in an imaginary duet.

Although Bieber’s reps did not take direct credit for the Slave to the Rhythm leak, the singer’s Twitter feed made it clear that there was nothing accidental about the release. “MJ. The greatest of all time. #fact,” he tweeted. “He set the bar.”

Jackson and Rodney Jerkins allegedly wrote Slave to the Rhythm during the sessions for 2001’s Invincible. In 2002, fans claim, the track was overhauled by super-producer Tricky Stewart, whose credits include Rihanna’s Umbrella, Beyonce’s Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It) and Justin Bieber’s Baby. This recording leaked after Jackson’s death. The newest version, with Bieber, is clearly even more recent; it may have been intended for 2010’s Michael, a compilation of previously unreleased material.

In an interview last year, Jerkins said that he would have loved to have had the chance to coordinate a team-up between Jackson and Bieber. “If Michael Jackson was alive I would have been able to make a meeting happen and actually get them to do something together,” he told Bieber’s vanity magazine Evolution.

According to a recent report by the Sunday People, Bieber is considering making a bid for Jackson’s abandoned California ranch. “It’s a no-brainer for Justin, he would love to live there,” declared their unnamed source. “Justin has been caught up in a fair amount of trouble lately so the best thing is for him to get out of central LA and live a quieter life.”
