She had managed to do the hard part in assembling an A-list crowd. Sadly for Joan Collins, her attempt at imitating the Oscars selfie organised by Ellen DeGeneres fell apart when she botched the more simple task of taking the photo.

Rather than snapping all 14 stars, the 80-year-old actress cut many out of the shot. Actors Jeremy Irons, Sir Ben Kingsley, Luke Evans and Dominic West did make it, with presenters Vernon Kay and Jools Holland and singer Pixie Lott.

However, even they appeared slightly out of focus in the picture uploaded to Collins’ Twitter account, while those cropped out included presenters Phillip Schofield, Gabby Logan, Tess Daly and Laura Whitmore and last year’s X Factor winner Sam Bailey.

The stars had gathered for the Prince’s Trust Celebrate Success awards, and Collins tried unsuccessfully to rope Prince Charles in for the photo. Despite the result, they clapped themselves and Collins said: “We got it. If they can do it at the Oscars we can do it here.”

The group had been trying to recreate the selfie that was shared by Oscars host DeGeneres at the Academy Awards earlier this month. The picture of stars including Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Kevin Spacey, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie became the most retweeted photograph ever, hitting more than two million.
