Bieber may be complaining about his insomnia to Vanity Fair (an interview he called "the most intense interview I have ever given" on his twitter account on Monday), but during his waking hours at least, he seems to be having a lot of fun over the holiday season.
Like many other stars, he's spent the last few days holidaying in the sunshine, on the island of St Lucia.
He is joined there by his friend Ryan Butler and a girl who appears to be Disney star Selena Gomez, and now pictures purporting to be of the Canadian singer and Gomez getting cozy have been doing the rounds online.
In the photos, taken on December 30 by photo agency Bauer Griffin, a bare-chested Bieber and Gomez, in a blue bikini, don't kiss (unlike in an earlier hoax photo that was circulated) but they do hug, snuggle and sit close to each other on the deck of a yacht.
Bieber hasn't responded to the rumours, saying only on his Twitter, "A lot of u are tweeting me about the TT #girlrespect so im gonna chime in," he wrote. "All girls should feel beautiful. a real man knows to treat a lady like a queen. ur happiness comes from theirs. step up fellas. #girlrespect."
A segment of his fans, however, have been vocal about the photos, with some sending death threats to Gomez through Twitter --examples include “roses are red, violets are blue, @selenagomez if you'll break @justinbieber's heart I'm gonna kill you :3" and "@selenagomez If you are the Girlfriend of Justin I will Kill you I HATE YOU :@ !!!"
When asked about the constant speculation regarding his personal life last month, Bieber brushed off the rumours about him and Gomez.
"She's really cool. She's an amazing person," he told MTV News. "I think that people are always gonna be interested in my personal life ... but I gotta keep some things to myself. I'm just having fun being a teenager."
