India will be making a special contribution to this year’s Doha Tribeca Film Festival (DTFF), with events that include a tribute to late director Yash Chopra and panel discussions with industry stars.

Two Chopra films featuring his frequent star Shah Rukh Khan will be screened: his swansong, “Jab Tak Hai Jaan (JTHJ)” at a gala on November 20 and a free screening of “Diwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge” at the Sony Open-Air Cinema on Katara Esplanade on November 21. There will also be a free screening of JHTK for labourers at Gulf Cinemas, one of the oldest screening venues in Qatar on November 20.

Meanwhile reknowned actor Anupam Kher, who appears in in David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook, will support the film, screening in the ‘Special Screenings’ segment.

Director Mira Nair will discussing the making of The Reluctant Fundamentalist, in a panel discussion, while DTFF jury member, director Ashutosh Gowariker, will participate in the discussion Going Global: Can Bollywood Films Really Crossover? with Shimit Amin, director of Chak De! India and Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year, actor Kher and vice-president of international promotions for Yash Raj Films, Avtar Panesar.

The Reluctant Fundamentalist is the festival’s opening film on November 17. Over 87 films from across the world will be screened at the festival, which runs from November 17-22.
