“Friendship is a bond that goes beyond the relationship between siblings, parent and child and spouses,” says debutant Tamil director Jai Krishna in an interview about his maiden film, Vanmham.

Krishna has worked in the industry for the past 20 years assisting several directors, including Kamal Haasan and Simbu.

Set in Nagercoil and Kanyakumari, this film, scripted by Krishna, dwells on the bond shared by two friends, Radhakrishnan and Chelladurai. Vijay Sethupathi plays Radhakrishnan and Kreshna is Chelladurai.

“Radhakrishnan is a reserved person and cautious in everything he does, unlike Chelladurai who is more of a playboy and an impulsive guy,” said Krishna.

Sunaina of Neerparavai fame plays a simple girl. Both the director and actress preferred to keep more details of the film under wraps.

“Sometimes, a slip of a tongue can drive a wedge between people and relationships,” added Krisha. “That’s what happens with the bond between these two buddies [who] become embittered.”

While Madurai slang is quite common in Tamil cinema, Vanmham features the Nagercoil slang, a first in the industry, Krishna claimed.

Vanmham is produced by Nemichand Jhebak. S.S. Thaman has scored music.
