Top stars from the Tamil and Telugu film industry have donated to the chief minister’s relief fund for the victims of cyclone Hudhud, which battered the Andhra Pradesh coast on Sunday.

The family of veteran actor Krishna announced a contribution of Rs6 million (Dh359,700), while Krishna and his actor son Mahesh Babu donated Rs2.5 million each, Krishna’s wife announced Rs1 million. Tamil actors Suriya, Vishal Krishna Reddy and Kajal Agarwal have also donated.

Suriya donated Rs5 million on behalf of his entire family. Reddy, who is currently busy with the promotions of his forthcoming Tamil release Poojai, contributed Rs1.5 million, and actress Kajal Aggarwal announced a donation of Rs500,000.

All the actors, producers and others have donated a total of more than Rs24 million to the relief fund. They also said that they will urge their fans to extend their support to the relief operations.

Popular actor Pawan Kalyan announced Rs5 million for the fund and said he would soon visit the cyclone-hit areas.

Kalyan, who floated political party Jana Sena before the elections in April this year, is the younger brother of Congress leader K. Chiranjeevi.

Popular actors Junior NTR, Prabhas and Allu Arjun declared that they will be contributing Rs2 million each.

Chiranjeevi’s actor son Ram Charan Teja was the first to announce Rs1 million for the relief fund. He told reporters that he would also send food, medicines and other relief material to the affected areas. He also announced Rs500,000 for Ramkrishna Mission to undertake relief work.

Ram Charan appealed to fans of Chiranjeevi to actively participate in relief work.

The producers’ council announced donation of Rs2.5 million. Filmmaker Dil Raju said the director’s body would separately announce its contribution.

Actor Sampoornesh Babu announced Rs100,000. Another young actor, Manchu Manoj, announced that he was leaving for Visakhapatnam to participate in relief work. He appealed to people to celebrate Diwali with simplicity and donate the saved money towards relief work.

Venkat Sai Media Private Limited’s managing director has donated Rs3 million to the relief fund.
