This Eid, a father-son duo will lock horns at the box office — in India, at least. Legendary actor Mammootty’s Manglish, is releasing along with son Dulquer’s Vikramadityan. (The films do not have UAE release dates yet.)

Manglish is Salam Bappu’s second film. Mammootty plays a fish auctioneer, Malik Bai, from Mattanchery harbour in Kochi. Caroline Bech, a Dutch actress, debuts in India cinema in a significant role.

“She is Michelle, a European woman who arrives in Kochi on a search and seeks the help of Malik Bai,” said Bappu, a former lawyer.

Naturally, Michelle does not know Malayalam and Malik Bai barely speaks English. So what emerges during their conversation is Manglish.

“It is a fun film with humour and a good festival fare,” assured Bappu who started scriptwriting for Asianet Television and then assisted Lal Jose before going solo with Red Wine.

The supporting cast includes Srinda, Joju George, Sathar, P. Balachandran and American actor and musician Alex O’ Nell, (who has acted in Hindi films Chenni Kum, Chittagong and Tamil film Madrasapattinam).

Dulquer has sung a number for his father’s film. His own, Vikramadityan, is directed by Lal Jose and co-stars Unni Mukundan and Namitha Pramod.

“This story is about three friends who are involved in a special relationship,” said Dr Iqbal Mohammad, a Dubai-based homeopathic doctor who also writes scripts [his previous hits include Niram, Meghamalhar and Diamond Necklace.
