Is your daughter really safe in her bedroom?

You might think so, but with internet access, director John Robinson begs to differ.

This first-time director, through his bilingual film Asha Black (Malayalam) (Nee Naan Nizhal in Tamil) brings out the vulnerability of teenage girls who are hooked on the net.

“We presume that our daughters are safe inside their locked bedrooms, but with online predators, that is not the case,” said Robinson who worked on ad films before venturing into this feature film. Prior to that, he assisted directors K.S. Adhiyaman and Major Ravi.

This film’s story was sparked by a real-life tale of a teenager who befriended people online and found herself exploited by her male friends.

“I met this 14-year-old girl online and was surprised to find her online most of the time,” recalled this father of two girls.

“Deprived of her father’s love, who was too busy to give her attention, the girl sought the affection of other men, little knowing that she was heading into a trap.”

Robinson’s timely message to her father saved her.

“She is doing well now after getting psychiatric help. Some parents neglect their children and fail to understand them. Their children prefer opening up to a stranger they befriend online.”

Robinson added: “With easy access to the net, children are lured by online predators who hide behind the web of anonymity.”

Asha Black features Arjun Lal in the lead. He was last seen in the Mohan Lal film, Thanmathra.

Lal is paired opposite Ishita Chauhan. Manoj K. Jain and Sarath Kumar also star in the romantic thriller.

Produced by Bindu John Verghese and shot simultaneously in Tamil and Malayalam, the film portrays a message that is relevant today. Jecin George has scored the music.
