Sans celebrity airs, this niece of actor Kamal Haasan, is an interviewer’s delight. She can definitely keep a conversation flowing.

Anu Haasan, who lives in the UK, was in Chennai for the launch of her book, Sunny Side Up.

Asked how the book idea for a book came about, she says, “I have been writing for an Indian daily and a magazine for the past few years.” Haasan is also part of the Russel T. Davies’ television serial, Cucumber.

Haasan plays a pregnant Indian wife in the show.

Slipping on a silicone tummy was fun but the tough part was using the ‘F’ word in her dialogues, said Haasan, who heads South India Cine Creations.

“I have never used the ‘F’ word in my life, though I have used s**t. My friends call me a prude. It called for some practice. During the take I said it with relish, I discovered.”

Life in the UK is fun and she loves the anonymity of the Haasan surname, she says, “It allows me to sit on the park bench eating my sandwich and watching traffic go by.”

About Sunny Side Up she said, “The book is so structured that you can pick it up and read it for a while and then go back to it again later. It is more of a travelling companion and could inspire as well as entertain readers with my life’s stories.”
