Sharmila Tagore celebrated her 70th birthday on Monday in Ranthambore in Rajasthan, famous for its tiger reserve, with her son Saif Ali Khan and daughter-in-law Kareena Kapoor Khan.
“The family along with other relatives and close friends are here to celebrate Sharmila Tagore’s birthday,” a source said, adding that they are staying in a hotel near the Ranthambore National Park.
“A lavish party is being hosted in the hotel,” the source added.
Tagore and her guests reached the hotel on Sunday from Jaipur and visited the park, which is home to more than 60 tigers, including cubs. In 2013, the overall tiger population was put at 48.
“On Sunday, they visited the park in the afternoon and spent around three hours [there]. During the safari, they spotted five tigers — two adults and three cubs,” said a source from the forest department.
He also said that they spent more than 15-20 minutes watching the tigress T-19, also known as Krishna, and her three cubs. The tigress, which had just killed a Sambhar deer, was busy feasting with her children.
After that they observed the activities of T-28, also known as Star Male, for about 20 minutes.
“[On Monday] morning they were in the hotel, but in the afternoon some of the guests visited the park again,” the source said.
Khan, Kapoor Khan and Tagore are likely to leave Ranthambore on Tuesday.
